“Blanca Avalos brings an edge and grit to her damaged characters.” Ted Sluberski. As an edgy actress who is fluent in Spanish, I gravitate toward characters who will seduce you, then feed you to the alligators.
I was heavily influenced by my Grandparents, who were performers – a Matador and a Spanish dancer. I performed regularly at a young age for my beloved Uncle Joe, as well as his diverse and open group of friends: his lover, who was the spitting image of Freddy Mercury; a 6’1, German, Grace Jones protege; and a very heavy set man from Egypt, who wore the bluest of eyeshadow and a colorful boa while belting out I Will Survive!
I am a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, working in film and television. Notable television roles include House of Cards, where I was directed by David Fincher.
I have 3 films circulating the festivals, including the lead role in Shadow of the Monarch, a dark thriller which was picked up for distribution and has been an Official Selection at festivals worldwide.
I also booked a supporting role on Family, which premiered at the 2009 Pan African Film & Arts Festival, as well a supporting role in the award winning short Oil and Vinegar, which was an Official Selection at the NYC Chain Film Festival.
I am a graduate of the esteemed William Esper Studio in NYC, where I trained with the renowned Bill Esper, Bruce McCarty, Suzanne Esper, and Jessica Wolf. (Yale Drama)
When I’m not going rogue and eating zombies for breakfast, I enjoy traveling the world and experiencing different cultures. I’ve traveled from South Africa to Italy to Amsterdam. I love spoiling “my two favorite rescues”, Kenny (a 100 lb pit bull/spanish pointer mix) and Max (a 120 lb german shepherd/lab mix). I cherish a simple walk in the park with my scrappy varmint Kenny on one side of me and gentle giant Max on the other.
